Mahon
The capital of Menorca, Mahon, stretches along one of the largest natural harbors in the Mediterranean. Mahon is rich in the many different cultures that have populated it throughout history, and the town center clearly reflects the almost century period when it was under British rule, particularly through the architecture of its buildings. Along the historic district of Mahon you will find numerous town houses and historic buildings. One of them is the central Plaza de España. In addition, Mahon is home to some wonderful cultural institutions such as the oldest opera house in Spain and the Teatro Principal, which offers exciting performances by artists and musicians from around the world.
Cala'n Porter
Source text Cala'n Porter is a hidden gem, set on the cliffs, overlooking an incredible bay of turquoise waters, white sands and stunning green countryside. Less than a 15 minutes’ drive from the airport, it is very convenient and was one of the first tourist resorts to be established in Menorca. The town has undergone some major improvements in recent years and is now enjoying an increasing reputation as a place for beach and nature lovers, as well as the most atmospheric dance floors in Menorca. The resort attracts couples, families and people of all ages and nationalities, particularly for self-catered holiday, although there are plenty of places to eat situated in the centre of the town. There is a clear mix of residential homes, villas and apartments, with a couple of hotels too.
Son Bou
Son Bou, situated on the South coast is approximately 20 minutes’ drive from the airport. The holiday resort is a mix of private/commercial villas and apartments and some hotels, all built behind the island’s longest beach and is part of the municipality district of Alaior. Son Bou has three distinct areas Central Son Bou, San Jaime and Torre Soli Nou, all of which blend into one another. Son Bou is one of the larger dedicated Menorcan resorts, with many facilities to offer. Water sports, snorkelling, pedalos and of course, the long, sandy beach, which is also part of the popular Cami de Cavells. The beautiful and typical Spanish town of Alaior is a short 10 minute drive away, offering many more amenities and plenty of entertainment in the evenings.
Son Parc
Son parc is a small resort on the north coast of Menorca, approximately 20kms west of Mahon and a 20 minutes journey to the airport. Son Parc is a self-contained holiday resort set within pine woods and with the islands only golf course. It is perfect for couples looking for quieter beach holidays and those with young families. In addition to Son Saura, which is one of the islands largest sandy beach locations, you have beautiful Fornells close by, which is a hub of water sports for the whole family. Also close by on the north of the island, you will find popular Es Grau, an old fishing village with very shallow waters, as well as Arenal D’en Castell, and Na Macaret.
Binibeca
Binibeca is locatedon the South East coast, approximately 15 minutes from the airport. The local name is Binibequer, which you may see on the road signs. The entire area is characterised by private white washed villas an apartments and a wonderfully quiet resort for those looking to holiday and live. Binibeca is an old traditional Menorcan fishing village and you will often see places in this area using ‘Bini’, which reflects the Moorish occupation (Bini meaning ‘belonging to the son of…’ from Ben Arabic for Son) One of the Main attractions to Binibeca Vell is the Menorca styled fishermens villa designed by Spanish architect Antonia Sintes in 1972. The area behind Binibeca’s beautiful beach is Binibeca Nou, which is mainly single sotry villas set amongst the hillside with wonderful sea views. An attractive, fine white sand beach with amenities is popular within Binibeca with shallow waters perfect for all ages.
Arenal d'en Castell
Arenal d’en Castell is situated on the North coast of Menorca. Along with its nearest neighbour Son Parc, with its golf course and tennis facilities, they are the largest holiday resorts on the North coast. The bay of Arenal d‘en Castell is a beautiful horseshoe shape with its calm, shallow warm waters and beautifully white soft sand and a variety of facilities for adults and children of all ages. Overlooked by pine trees, the area surrounding Arenal is very green and lush. Fornells is just a short 10-minute drive from Arenal and has one of the best sailing schools in the Mediterranean. You can find a large picture-perfect beach at Son Parc 10 minutes away, which has the islands only golf course. In the opposite direction to the East, you will also find a very rustic beach, Es Grau, which is part of the nature reserve and very idyllic.
Punta Prima
Punta Prima is located in the south east corner of Menorca. With Mahon a short 10km away and the airport also close by, it is a very easily accessible location. Punta Prima is a good sized Menorcan resort and one of the oldest holiday towns on the island, catering for families and couples and extremely pretty with a striking beach. It certainly has kept its charm and laidback attitude. There are a good selection of restaurants, supermarkets, lovely parks for children and a short drive away, a large water park. Punta Prima has a famous light house with crystal clear and colourful turquoise waters. The waters are shallow and warm. Other neighboring locations to Punta Prima are stunning Alcaufar, S’Algar, Biniancolla, Binibeca Vell, Binibeca Nou, Binisafua and Ca d’en Font.
Es Castell
Situated a short distance from Mahon/Mao, Es Castell is the most easterly town in Spain and the first to see the sun rise. Calas Fonts is a small fishing village on the edge of Es Castell, very popular with tourists and locals and full of little boats, restaurants and cafes. The town is rich in British military history and architecture. A short trip away are the small towns of Sol del Este, Santa Ana, Son Vilar and Noria Riera.
Coves Noves
Located in the North Coast of Menorca, Coves Noves is a popular residential area. Situated very close to the popular resort of Arenal D’en Castell and between Addaia, which is an ideal location to have a boat and Son Parc (perfect for those who wish to play golf or sail. It is surrounded by natural beauty and breath-taking sea views. The airport is a 20 mins drive away, the nearest towns are Alaior, Mahon and Es Mercadal. The nearest alternative beaches / resorts are Son Parc, Arenal d’en Castell, Na Macaret, Es Grau and Cala Mesquida on the north coast.
L'Argentina
Nestled between Mahon and Alaior; L’Argentina is a rural residential area consisting of approximately 100 houses. Ranging in size, they mostly all have large plots and surrounded by countryside. The urbanisation has a main street running through its centre, with various smaller veins coming off from it. There are two entrances and exits, creating a horseshow shape. L’Argentina is most well known for the popular zoo which is located at one end of the urbanisation. L’Argentina’s closest town is Alaior. The municipality has some stunning beaches, such as Son Bou and Calan Porter, which are both a very short drive from the town. Alaior is fantastic for wondering about early or late evening, when the heat of the sun is not around and the light brings out a more intense colour pallet. There is a market and live music every Wednesday evening during the summer season and the whole town is alive and vibrant with tourists and locals alike, enjoying tapas, cold refreshments and the warm Mediterranean air.
Addaya
Located in the North Coast of Menorca, Addaya is a popular residential area, with an exclusive natural port. Situated very close to the popular resort of Arenal D’en Castell, Na Macaret and Coves Noves; Addaya is an ideal location to have a boat and Son Parc (perfect for those who wish to play golf) or sail.
